Preventive conservation

Preventive conservation puts measures in place to avoid environmental damage to objects. This can be caused by incorrect light, temperature or humidity levels so we monitor them closely.

Pests like moths are another risk as they often lay eggs in wardrobes and drawers. The larvae that hatch eat natural fabrics and cause damage. We all have to deal with pests in our own houses. It’s just much more challenging if you have a wardrobe as large as all the storage rooms across the V&A!
